DNA Analyst
Salary Range: $54,536 – $98,500 (Higher salary possible with additional years of experience and graduate level education)

The Acadiana Criminalistics Laboratory serves the eight parishes (counties) of Acadia, Evangeline, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, and Vermilion. Services offered are Biology (including DNA analysis), Chemistry (controlled substances, blood alcohol and beverage alcohol, and fire debris analyses), and Firearms and Toolmarks analysis.
Minimum Requirements: Be able to communicate effectively (orally and in writing) Be of strong ethical background and free of criminal history Use computer applications as they relate to laboratory procedures Previous laboratory experience preferred Qualified candidates must meet the minimum educational requirements for a DNA analyst
o Bachelor’s degree in a biology-, chemistry-, or forensic science-related area from an accredited academic institution
o Minimum educational requirements: The employee must have successfully completed coursework (graduate or undergraduate level) covering the following subject areas: biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, and statistics and/or population genetics.
o A minimum of nine cumulative semester hours or equivalent must have been earned in the subject areas of biochemistry, genetics, and molecular biology.
Duties: Perform technical and scientific examinations in the field of DNA analysis Provide written reports with results of analysis and technical review of DNA reports Communication with law enforcement officers and judicial representatives and courtroom testimony as an expert witness in local, state, and federal court
