Bio

Professor Olesen is an Assistant Professor in the Forensic Science Department at VCU, having recently retired from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), where he served as a Special Agent for over 22 years.  During his career at the Bureau, he pursued computer hackers worldwide and later specialized in digital forensics.  Prior to joining the FBI, Professor Olesen was a cryptologic mathematician at the National Security Agency, and he taught cybersecurity and network forensics at the Defense Cyber Crime Center.  Professor Olesen started his academic career in 2024 as an Assistant Professor of Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics at Stevenson University.
