Bio

Before joining VCU as an instructor, Walcott worked as a firearm and toolmark examiner in both the Virginia Department of Forensic Science Central Laboratory, as well as the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation Crime Laboratory located in Raleigh. With just under 15 years of experience as a qualified expert in firearm/toolmark examination, she has examined evidence in cases involving firearm-related crimes, such as homicides, assaults, and police-involved shootings, as well as other toolmark-related crimes, including violent and property-related crimes involving the examination of toolmarks left by knives, boltcutter, screwdrivers, etc.... Walcott has crime scene experience in trajectory analysis and evidence recovery, as well as consultations with medical examiners in cases involving firearm-related injuries. She has testified as a court-qualified expert in multiple jurisdictions in both Virginia and North Carolina court systems, and has served as an instructor for the Virginia Forensic Academy and an adjunct instructor for the VCU Forensic Science graduate program in the area of Firearm and Toolmark Identification. She is a current regular member of the Association of Firearm and Toolmark Examiners (AFTE).
