Education
Jo S. Murphy received her BA in Sociology from the University of Virginia. She went on to earn her MSW with a health concentration from Virginia Commonwealth University. She later returned to VCU for a Post Professional Certification in Interdisciplinary Leadership Education Program in Childhood Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities.
Professional Experience
Jo’s social work career has taken her to multiple government and non-profit organizations such as the Kennedy Krieger Institute, VCU, Children’s Hospital, Henrico County Public Schools and most recently, FeedMore. Her focus has been on children’s health and education issues where she has provided direct service, research and program coordination. Jo has also worked at a small marketing agency as an account manager.
Accomplishments
Since coming to to the Forensic Science Department, Jo has helped renew the unit's community engagement activities and has taught a Service Learning course since 2013. Jo is a Richmond native and has been an active community member through volunteer work and board service. She continues to be involved with the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities and Communities in Schools Richmond.
